Holy Child Academy was founded in 1927 and is the only independent, co-educational, Catholic elementary school in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, serving students from Nursery through eighth grade. HCA faculty use innovative pedagogy and contemporary curriculum along with proven methods to create enriched learning opportunities for students. Director of Development

Holy Child Academy seeks a dynamic and results-oriented professional for the role of Director of Development and Alumni Relations. In its 97th year, HCA offers outstanding academic, performing arts, and athletic programs for students in Nursery through eighth grade. As a Catholic, independent school, HCA is proud of its 97-year history and its diverse community, welcoming families of all faiths. The Director will join a collegial team of professionals committed to meeting the needs of children in a joyful, creative learning environment.

Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Development and Alumni Relations is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan to achieve the Academy’s annual and long-range financial goals. The Director also is responsible for engaging and cultivating relationships with the Academy’s alumni. Primary responsibilities include promoting and growing the Annual Fund, building resources for financial aid through the Pennsylvania EITC/OSTC tax credit program, planning and executing fundraising and donor events including the school’s annual benefit and silent auction, and managing the Development Office database.

Qualified candidates will possess two to five years of experience in fundraising coupled with a commitment to the value of private education and a desire to advance the mission and philosophy of Holy Child Academy. The successful candidate will possess outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills, a self-directed and entrepreneurial spirit, mature judgment, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with trustees, parents, alumni, and faculty and staff colleagues. Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage social media are essential for the position in addition to proficiency with Microsoft Office products to manage data, prepare Board reports and make presentations. Experience working with fundraising software programs such as Raiser’s Edge as well as experience managing EITC/OSTC tax credit programs would be preferred.  Experience working with trustees and managing Board committees is also preferred. A Bachelor’s degree is required along with the ability to work some nights and weekends and travel locally.

Assistant Teacher for Nursery 3 (part-time)

Holy Child Academy seeks a dynamic professional who wishes to assistant teach in a thriving independent Catholic school for grades Nursery through eight, providing outstanding academic, performing arts, and athletic programs for a diverse community. Entering its 96th year, HCA is poised to grow and meet the needs of children and families who desire a joyful, creative, rigorous, faith-based community.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the implementation of the daily program under the direction of the lead teachers in various classrooms. This part time educator will be committed to a holistic approach to education. He or she will place a high value on the distinctive opportunities offered in independent schools, and will welcome the opportunity to advance the mission and philosophy of Holy Child Academy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and implementing curriculum
  • Assist in managing the classroom
  • Instruct children in small and large groups
  • Provide individualized support during instructional times
  • Participate in in-house meetings as needed
  • Maintain a professional stance with students and parents and follow the classroom teachers' lead in all discussions relating to students
  • Supervise outside playground activities
  • Supervise the classroom when the teacher is out of the room
  • Assist with general housekeeping and classroom tasks, preparing materials as needed, and supporting technology needs
  • Attend staff meetings and recommended professional development
  • Participate in the morning, lunch/recess and afternoon duties as needed

Essential Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree required
  • Experience working in an educational setting (early childhood level preferred)

Nursery 3 Lead Teacher

Holy Child Academy in Drexel Hill is expanding the current Nursery 3 program and is seeking a full time teacher for a Nursery, Montessori-influenced, three year old program. This is an exceptional opportunity for a professional to work with children in a well-developed program, partnering with engaged families and supportive colleagues. The successful candidate will be a creative and energetic educator who is passionate about the merits of the Montessori approach and the value of a private, faith-based experience for children. HCA is an independent Catholic school serving families of all faiths. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement a program of engaging and challenging classroom activities incorporating both the Montessori method of education along with traditional early childhood aspects as well.
  • Partner with the current Nursery teachers to develop and expand the Nursery program
  • Maintain active partnerships with parents with open and effective communication.
  • Employ effective classroom management techniques to create a peaceful, orderly, and productive environment; help students develop positive behaviors and self-control to assist them in learning.
  • Provide a safe and secure environment that encourages students’ self-confidence and achievement.
  • Actively participate in division and faculty meetings, in-service days, and committee meetings.
  • Maintain an active commitment to professional growth and development.
  • Support HCA’s advancement and growth by assisting at Open Houses and other promotional events.

Essential Qualifications

  • BA or BS in early childhood education or a related field
  • Experience as an early childhood teacher
