Holy Child Academy was founded in 1927 and is the only independent, co-educational, Catholic elementary school in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, serving students from Nursery through eighth grade. HCA faculty use innovative pedagogy and contemporary curriculum along with proven methods to create enriched learning opportunities for students. Grade 4 Teacher

Holy Child Academy seeks a dynamic professional who wishes to teach in a thriving independent Catholic school for grades Nursery through eight, providing outstanding academic, performing arts, and athletic programs for a diverse community. Entering its 92nd year, HCA is poised to grow and meet the needs of children and families who desire a joyful, creative, rigorous, faith-based community.

The successful candidate will be an educator who employs innovative and creative approaches to elementary education, using varied strategies including experiential and project-based work to help students develop the foundational skills needed for success in school. Reporting to the director of the lower school, this full-time teacher will be committed to a holistic approach to education. He or she will place a high value on the distinctive opportunities offered in independent schools, and will welcome the opportunity to advance the mission and philosophy of Holy Child Academy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement a program of engaging and challenging classroom activities for mathematics, language arts, social studies, science, and religion.
  • Maintain active partnerships with parents with open and effective communication.
  • Use varied assessment strategies to promote mastery.
  • Employ effective classroom management techniques to create a peaceful, orderly, and productive environment; help students develop positive behaviors and self-control to assist them in learning.
  • Enhance the school’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
  • Establish high standards and expectations for academic excellence; provide a safe and secure environment that encourages students’ self-confidence and achievement.
  • Actively participate in division and faculty meetings, in-service days, and committee meetings.
  • Maintain an active commitment to professional growth and development.
  • Support HCA’s advancement and growth by assisting at Open Houses and other promotional events.
  • Full-time Lower School faculty are also expected to perform supervisory duties (recess, lunch, etc.), supervise a club, facilitate a service project, and assist with other programmatic activities that are part of the school day.

Essential Qualifications

  • BA or BS in elementary education or related field
  • Minimum of three years of experience as an elementary teacher
  • Desire to advance the mission and goals of Holy Child education and participate fully in the life of the school community
  • Demonstrated success in effective classroom management, student engagement, and high quality instruction
  • Proficiency with differentiated instruction
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and superior public-speaking and presentation skills
  • Proficiency with educational technology
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • High energy and creativity
  • Authentic passion for education of young people

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a Catholic, independent school environment
  • Master’s degree in education or related field
  • Teaching certification
  • Experience with math programs that emphasize conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and 21st-century skills, e.g., Go Math! or Singapore Math
