Celebrations :-)

There was a lot to celebrate this week!

On Tuesday, we did a lesson on the history of Mardi Gras. The children learned about how it is the day that marks the start of Lent which leads us into Easter; a very special time of giving, reflection, and holding God in our hearts. We talked about some of the celebrations that happen on Mardi Gras like parades, dressing in costumes and masks, eating special food, throwing beads, and jazz music! They learned about what the 3 colors of Mardi Gras represent; Purple- Justice, Green- Faith, and Gold- Power, and talked about the meaning of these powerful words. The students got to decorate their own special mask, and we paraded around the room with instruments to jazz music! Although we tend to keep lessons like this simple and brief for this age group, they were able to connect to and understand a lot of what we talked about and why this upcoming season is so special.

It was a nice segue into our Ash Wednesday mass the next day. The whole school gathered in the gym for the mass and the children received their ashes. Again- not an easy topic to grasp at this age- but we simply told them that the ashes are a symbol of your love for God and the world around you. The kids were AWESOME! They stayed seated in their chairs, stood when they were asked to, and remained about as quiet as you could wish for 2-3 years! I was very proud, and I am sure you would have been impressed (and shocked) if you saw them. How adorable! Wednesday also marked our 100th day of school! Can you believe it?! We don't talk about this too much in our room, when the kids get to Pre-K they will partake in the awesome 100 day activities, but it was fun to discuss and see the big kids' projects!

Today we had FRIDAY FUNDAY with our Nursery 3 friends. Basically just a big play date between the 2 classes! It is so fun to just let them play and discover together; you could tell how much fun they had by the amount of toys that were on the floor! Some of our friends also enjoyed Pizza Friday,  you could tell how much they enjoyed it by the amount of pizza on their face! Don't forget to sign up at the beginning of each month if you would like your child to buy lunch at school!

Enjoy your weekend!
