Founders Day fun!

It was a busy and exciting week in Nursery 2!

On Tuesday we joined together with our friends in Mrs. Z's class to talk about the importance of Fire Safety. We watched a brief Fire Prevention video and got a chance to talk together about ways to practice safety. We spent a bit more time over the next few days bringing fire safety into our circle time discussion. We read a book about a firefighter Pete, sang and danced to our favorite fire truck songs and the children even got promoted to Junior Fire Marshalls!

In class we continued with the early basics of our Montessori work. Since this work period and some of the Montessori materials are still new we have been taking our time easing into the routine. The students carry their work rug to a spot in the room and put their picture circle down to remind them which rug is theirs. Once their space is set up they are allowed to choose a Montessori work from our designated shelves. Right now our work shelves consist of things like puzzles, color sorting, shape matching and size sequencing. This week we had a lesson in pouring and transferring. This is an exercise for coordination, concentration, fine motor skills, and it is one of the first basics taught in a Montessori classroom. Each student got a chance to try pouring during the lesson and then at choice time, if they wanted to, got to try on their own time. Once a new Montessori material is introduced it will be put out on our shelf for the children to choose during work time!

On Thursday, Holy Child Academy celebrated Cornelia Connelly during our Founders Day event! It began with an all school prayer service, during which each grade got a chance to tell the school about the service project they will be working on. Nursery 2 and Nursery 3 are the Beacons of Joy and will send notes, cards and pictures to those who are in need of prayers during the year. After this, the middle school students led our friends through a bunch of activity stations throughout the school! The children got to roll pumpkins, build cup towers, bounce balloons, toss bean bags, and lots of other fun games. The best part was getting to know some of the older students in our school and spend the time together. Community is an important piece of Holy Child Academy, and such a special blessing our children get to share.

As always, thank you for sharing you children with us. We love to watch them grow!

If you get a chance over the weekend try and go for a Fall nature walk and talk to your children about what they see, smell, touch! Please bring into class any fun leaves, acorns, pinecones, or other nature items that are unique to the season. The children are enjoying the chance to share with the class the treasures they find!
