What a week we had in Pre-K!

The boys and girls have LOVED playing outside on the playground each day. We are so lucky that the children have two recess periods to run, jump, explore, and play together. Recess is proven to help improve students' memory and concentration, stay on task in the classroom, and improve social and emotional development.

We are building our daily routine and schedule in Pre-K. Each morning when the children arrive, they unpack their bags, bring their folders into the classrooms, and sign in. To sign in, the children are practicing tracing their names on the sign in sheet. This daily practice allows them to learn the formation of each letter and learn that all names begin with a capital letter, followed by lowercase letters. Once the children have mastered tracing, we will move in to writing their names independently. 

After the children sign in, they have some free play time with their friends. Next, we move into our Morning Meeting, where we discuss the calendar, day of the week, weather, read a story, and discuss our daily schedule. We also have a whole group lesson on a variety of topics. This week, one of our lessons was on the Montessori materials, the Pink Tower and Brown Stair. Both of those materials are Sensorial materials and help the children learn to build from largest to smallest. By combining these materials in extension lessons, the children learn to recognize and build patterns as well. As you can see from the picture, they love this lesson!

Next week's show and tell will be on Friday, September 30. The topic will be "my family." Please send your child to school with a picture of your immediate family (if you do not have a photo, your child can draw a picture). Help them prepare to name the members of your family and tell one thing you all like to do together.
